How to Swim Breaststroke
Hi, I am Coach Roger from the Scenic City Aquatic Club here at McCallie School, and today we are going to learn how to do the breaststroke.
Three Components of the Breaststroke
There are three main components of the breaststroke: the pull, the kick and the timing. The first component is the pull. You want to keep your hands up front of your face and then stop at the end of each stroke cycle.
When you're swimming, you want to make sure your hands stay up front of your face, and your elbows don't get too far back. The kick, you want to get your heels up, toes turned out, and kick around together. So, you bring your heels up, toes out, and around together and squeeze.
Use Correct Timing for the Breaststroke
And then the timing is the third component of the stroke, and it's going to be start your pull, start your breath, start your kick, and then you finish your kick and glide. Holding your glide for one second will help lengthen the stroke out, and let the timing work every time.
